Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, inflammatory, systemic autoimmune disease, affecting the joints with varying severity among patients. Natural products from plants have played a remarkable role to cure and avert different diseases from ancient times. A study conducted by World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that about 80% of world’s population relies on traditional medicine. Ginger is traditionally used in alternative medicines to reduce pain from rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. This review article is an attempt to provide a detailed insight in ginger as an antirheumatic remedy, phytoconstituents responsible for anti-rheumatic effect of ginger, mechanism involved in anti-rheumatic action of ginger and their safety issues but further research is required to investigate the safety, efficacy and potential drug interactions of ginger....
Preliminary phytochemical evaluation of stem and leaves extract of Rauvolfia tetraphylla in petroleum ether, chloroform and ethanol showed the presence of carbohydrate, glycoside, alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, tannins and phenols. All the extracts were evaluated for their in-vitro anticancer activity against cancer cell line (HT 29 adenocarcinoma) by MTT assay, in-vitro antitubercular activity against M. tuberculosis H37Rv by microplate almar blue dye method and in-vitro antibacterial activity against Gram positive bacteria S. aureus, E. feacali and Gram negative bacteria E. coli, Klebsiella by serial dilution method. The anticancer activity results showed that chloroform extract of stem and leaf, ethanol extract of leaf exhibited excellent anticancer activity with 100% lysis at 10 microgram/ml. Most of the plant extracts of Rauvolfia tetraphylla were found to be active against Mycobacterium tuberculae and bacterial strains used in the study. Thus, the results of present work supports the traditional use of Rauvolfia tetraphylla and can be further explored for their potential therapeutic use....
Preliminary phytochemical evaluation of stem and leaves extract of Abutilon indicum in petroleum ether, chloroform, ethanol and chloroform-watershowed the presence of carbohydrates, glycosides, alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, tannins and phenols. All the extracts were evaluated for their in-vitro anticancer activity against cancer cell line (HT 29 adenocarcinoma) by MTT assay, in-vitro antitubercular activity against M. tuberculosis H37Rv by microplate almar blue dye method and in-vitro antibacterial activity against Gram positive bacteria S. aureus, E feacali and Gram negative bacteria E. coli, Klebsiella by serial dilution method. The result showed that chloroform-water extract of stem and leaf exhibited good anticancer activity. Most of the plant extracts of Abutilon indicum were found to be active against Mycobacterium tuberculae and bacterial strains used in the study. Thus, the results of present work support the traditional use of Abutilon indicum and can be further explored for their potential therapeutic use....
Ziziphus xylopyrus (Retz) Willd. belongs to the family Rhamnaceae. It is an important and well known plant in the Indian system of medicine. Despite its popular medicinal utilization, there were no definite phyto-physicochemical data of Ziziphus xylopyrus (Retz) Willd. stem bark has been reported so far, for its pharmacognostical standardization. Thus the research study was designed to investigate the phyto-physicochemical aspects of Ziziphus Xylopyrus (Retz) Willd stem bark. The various physicochemical parameters like ash values and extractive values were determined, preliminary phytochemical studies on ethanolic stem bark extract revealed presence of different phytoconstituents such as alkaloids, steroids and sterols, saponins, flavonoids, phenolic, carbohydrates, fixed oils and tri-terpenoids and showed the absence of amino acids, glycosides, proteins and acidic compounds. Fractions were prepared according to polarity and subjected to TLC and HPTLC analysis....
